Once again, for the second consecutive year, from May 22nd to 26th, Puerto Vallarta will host the largest LGBT event in the area: Vallarta Pride. The LGBT community fell in love with Banderas Bay and Puerto Vallarta long time ago and made of this tropical paradise its favorite gathering spot.
Puerto Vallarta, apart from stunning beaches, Sierra Madre views, gourmet restaurants and numerous possibilities of entertainment boasts its level of acceptance and open minded attitude. That is the reason why, over the last few years, we have seen various local, national and international LGBT events and meetings taking place here. It has become a main gay destination in Mexico and one of the most popular in the whole world.
But gay Puerto Vallarta is much more than only a touristic destination – the LGBT community has contributed into the growth of the city in professional, artistic, charity and economic areas. This year, various associations, companies and the entire LGBT community have united their efforts to celebrate the Vallarta Pride event, for the second time in its history. Vallarta Pride aims to show and promote the lifestyle diversity in a festival that is planned to last for 5 days. The program includes arts and culture events, concerts, entertainment, films, fun, lots of partying, and last but not least, the fabulous Pride Parade. Most of the events are free and available to the general public.
Among numerous activities one of the most anticipated one is the Great Vallarta Drag Race; an event that will feature 14 participants competing over 7 weeks. The culmination of the event will be the crowning of the Queen of the Pride during the parade on Saturday May 24th. The Opening Party will be celebrated on May 22nd at the Mantamar Beach Club Bar & Grill and the attendants will be able to enjoy the documentary “We Are Proud” that presents the LGBT history of Puerto Vallarta.
On May 23, at Stages, the new entertainment complex at the corner of Basilio Badillo and Constitucion, the Puerto Vallarta Men’s Choir will give a concert. On May 23rd, also at stages will start the Candlelight March an event that celebrates the growth of acceptance of the LGBT community in Puerto Vallarta. Casa Cupula restaurant and El Arrayan will join the celebrations with parties that taking place on the night of May 23rd. Other events that are worth mentioning are the Commitment ceremony for everybody that wants to commit or renew their vows, a party in the Lazaro Cardenas Park (both on May 24th), and the Fashion Show at Blue Chairs Beach Club on Sunday 25th. Another important goal of Vallarta Pride 2014 is to contribute for a future without social borders and discrimination, a future where everybody is equal end enjoys the same rights, privileges and obligations.
